Sports and Mouthguards

It’s common to see professional athletes in boxing, hockey and football wearing mouthguards, but oral protection is also important for recreational athletes of all ages. “In any sport where you could potentially be hit in the face, a mouthguard is a good thing,” says Dr. Euan Swan, manager of dental programs at the Canadian Dental Association. Different styles of mouthguards are available, ranging from the cheapest option purchased at a local drugstore, to stronger, customized guards available at your dentist. Not sure if you really need one? Remember that the cost of fixing damaged teeth would be considerably higher than the price of a mouthguard.
