It is quite common for dentists to see patients who have a cracked or fractured tooth. With today’s advanced dental technology, people are keeping their natural teeth longer and over time the likelihood of a cracked tooth increases.
There are a number of reasons why a tooth could crack or fracture. These include biting on a hard object, grinding, trauma, and clinching.
If you experience a cracked tooth, you will want to see your dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime, avoid chewing on that side of your mouth to prevent further damage. An untreated cracked tooth is an invitation for tooth decay. If the crack is deep or into the nerve of the tooth, it may need an extraction or root canal. Taking immediate action to treat the tooth is always best.
Our Charlotte dental team uses digital xrays and intra-oral cameras to help detect any cracks or fractures in your teeth.
