Did you know that 50% of people say that a smile is the first thing they notice about someone? Also, studies show that a beautiful smile makes you look younger; it is better than plastic surgery! Brush twice a day and floss daily so the smile people are noticing is shiny and white!
Our hygiene staff completed an evolutionary hygiene training at the office this past April. Why did we do this?...because bleeding gums (gum disease) is a trigger for heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer, arthritis, and preterm birth (those are just a few).
It all begins with biofilm (communities of resistant bacteria) that naturally occur in the body. Think of your gut, when that gets out of balance we get sick and inflamed. When the bacteria in our mouths get out of balance, our gums start to bleed and inflame.
The hygienists learned how these mature bacterial communities behave and evolve in the gums. They learned about the most current research merged with the latest clinical techniques. They had specialized training with the ultrasonic scalers and learned how to flush out these toxins (biofilm bacteria) that embed deeply in our gums.
If your gums bleed during your cleaning, ask your dental hygienist what can be done to achieve total oral and body health.
Toothpaste was used as long ago as 500 BC in China and India. Ancient toothpastes included ingredients such as soot, honey, crushed egg shells, and ground ox’s hooves. In 1873, Colgate released the first commercially prepared toothpaste, which had the minty taste we know today.
Dental floss was first manufactured in 1882. If you floss once a day, you will use about 5 miles of floss over your lifetime! Dental floss isn’t just for teeth—a prison inmate in West Virginia braided floss into a rope, scaled the prison wall and escaped.
